Jollyes store in Newry is celebrating the official launch of their Community Pet Clinic service this Monday 12 June from 10.00am – 12pm at their Newry store.
As part of this million-pound veterinary investment, which saw the retailer introduce the Community Pet Clinic to eight stores across Northern Ireland, Jollyes is appealing to the Northern Ireland government to follow in the paw-steps of England which has made cat microchipping mandatory by June 2024.
In Northern Ireland, more than 20 per cent of the population are cat owners (https://www.cats.org.uk) and there is a population of 74,000 cats in the region that are not microchipped.
Microchipping, already mandatory for dogs since 2016, makes it easier for lost or stray pets to be returned home safely, which can be a devastating time for pet owners.
Microchipping is available at Jollyes from £10, allowing pet owners to prioritize their furry companions’ security without breaking the bank.
Karen Matthews, co-founder of charity Almost Home, said: “We support Jollyes wholeheartedly with this initiative as it is our responsibility to protect our feline companions and reunite them with their loving families.
“Microchipping is a simple and effective way to achieve this, enabling lost or stray cats to be quickly reunited with their owners. Jollyes has made microchipping extremely affordable and accessible with the new pet clinic and we urge everyone to microchip their pet.”
Almost Home will be at the Newry Jollyes for Community Pet Clinic launch day to share information on its service and answer any questions you might have.
The introduction of the Community Pet Clinic by Jollyes stems from its commitment to supporting pet owners burdened with costly veterinary bills. The clinics offer affordable dog and cat vaccinations, starting from just £33, and rabbit vaccinations from £14, presenting significant savings compared to formal vet practices.
Laura Hadden, Jollyes Regional Manager for Northern Ireland, added: “We believe that microchipping is a crucial tool in ensuring the welfare and protection of our pets. Microchipping not only helps in reuniting lost or stray cats with their owners but also plays a vital role in deterring pet theft and illegal breeding.
“Our Community Pet Clinic has been a success so far and it provides an essential service for our customer’s furry friends at a great price.”
The million-pound veterinary investment has been running since March in Banbridge, Bangor, Ballymena, Belfast, Lisburn, Lurgan, Newry and Newtownabbey.
Join the Jollyes team on Monday, 12th June, from 10:00am to 12:00pm at the Newry store, as they celebrate the launch of the Community Pet Clinic and advocate for the implementation of mandatory cat microchipping legislation. Together, we can create a safer and more responsible environment for our feline companions in Northern Ireland.
